The future looks bright for both the Department and the campus. There are two events that are of special interest to our alumni:

 

• The Celebration of 40 years of Chemical Engineering at UCSB
  (June 8-9, 2007)
  
  
• The Opening of the Mosher Alumni House
  (tentative date: April 2007)

 

Department planning activities are updated each year and reviewed at the annual meeting of the Department’s very distinguished External Advisory Board. Key planning issues include:

 

• Additional office and laboratory space;
• Faculty renewal in view of expected retirements in the next few years;
• Financial support for students, especially graduate students

 

A Campus Long-Range Development Plan for the next 15 years is in preparation. It includes provision for a modest enrollment increase, up to a total of 24,000 students. This plan also includes significant physical changes to the campus and Isla Vista. (Don’t worry; IV will continue to be an oasis of serenity in the academic maelstrom.)
